Book Review

This book is a laugh-out-loud, quick read that is hard to put down. I usually didn't read these kinds of books, but when I started reading, I read like crazy.  Jeff Kinney is at his best. As a reader, you experience Greg Hefley's hilarous life as a first-year middle school student. There are many different events that are very funny, and you will almost fall out of your chair laughing. As a middle schooler, the book had me experiencing what is happening in real life, but it made it all very funny.  While reading this book, I saw that lots of kids feel the same way as I do about things.  Something else that added to the book's humor is the animated pictures with cartoons on every page.  Although Diary of a Wimpy Kid was written for 9 -12 year olds, any audience; including adults, would enjoy this book .  It was on the No. #1 New York Times Best Seller list, and I thought it was better than Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing. This wacky book has a lot of funny events outside of school and inside of school and it will keep you laughing. The book comes in audio and hardcover. There is a website on the author, Jeff Kinny and it is http://school.familyeducation.com/authors/artists/38386.html.

Book Summary

The book starts out with the main character, Greg, beginning middle school. He has a ton of problems to worry about, such as if he can be popular, and if he can be good at an extracurricular activity. At home, Greg has an older and a younger brother, a mom, and a dad. He also has a friend across the street named Rowley, who is his only friend and is a little hyper. He sometimes gets picked on by the bullies in the school and his older brother. He sometimes doesn't get what he wants, but in the end he is a pretty happy kid. In his "journal" Rowley shares his many funny experinces in 7th grade.

A Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2: Rodrick Rules

Amazon says: "In his latest book, Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules, Jeff Kinney nearly put me into the hospital. That man is going to have serious medical bills to pay if this keeps up. I almost busted a gut laughing out loud and almost aspirated my Diet Dr Pepper on a few occasions. And yes, I hold him completely responsible."

Common Sense Media says:  "worthy follow-up to the first book Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Rodrick Rules gives us more of Greg's funny take on the world around him through his comics-laced journal. Greg's in more scrapes this time around, and worse than that, his bully brother Rodrick knows one of Greg's secrets that could definitely get him into trouble and threatens to tell the world. Here comes the brotherly blackmail and a great topic for parent-kid discussions."
