BOOK SUMMARY:
Percy Jackson is a regular boy, besides the fact that he has ADHD, dyslexia, and he is a half blood. Percy seems to always be getting in trouble due to his ADHD, and one day something unexplainable happens. Percy’s pre-algebra teacher turns into a fury and attacks him. Percy fights her off but when he talks to his friend, Grover, he says it never happened and that the teacher never existed. Percy learns that his father is the god, Poseidon, and he is forced to go to camp half-blood. His camp experience earns him many friends and enemies that will help him along the way. When Percy arrives, Zeus' lightning bolt has been stolen and fingers are being pointed. After time, the blame starts to be pointed towards Percy. Percy, a daughter of Athena, and a young Satry are sent on a journey to recieve Zeus' lightning bolt from Hades . However, at the same time, a war is about to begin between the three main god; Zeus, Hades, and Poseidon. Many people are getting blamed for stealing the bolt. The journey becomes even more complicated then he and the gods imagined.

Rick Riordan, the author of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, was born on June 5th, 1964, in San Antonio, TX. He attended to Alamo Heights High School in San Antonio. While working as an editor in his school newspaper, he won third place in state for UIL feature writing. He then started college at North Texas State, but then transfered to the University of Texas in Austin. He double majors in English and history and he got certified to teach English from UT San Antonio.
One of the reading influenced he had as a child was reading The Lord of the Rings. He also enjoyed reading and learning about Greek and Norse mythology. He then started writing in middle school and he submitted his first publication when he was 13 years old. It was not published, but his first published works were two short stories in the UTSA literary magazine. Then, before writing The Lightning Thief, he got his idea for Camp Half-Blood when he was the music director at a summer camp.
He then taught at Presidio Hill School, San Francisco for eight years. Then he had his two sons and moved to San Antonio were he taught at Saint Mary's Hall (English and social studies, grades 6-8) for six years. Afterwords, he stopped teaching to become a full-time writer. Almost every year he taught mythology, which was his favorite subject.

Zeus: Zeus is the king of the gods. He is the god of the sky and the weather. he also controls many other things. He is most famous for carrying around his master lightning bolt.
Poseidon: Poseidon is the god of the sea and horses. He controls different elements of our world. Posiedons equivalent to Zeus's lightning bolt is his Trident.
Hades: Hades was the king of the underworld. He also was the ruler of death and the dead. When his name is translated, it translates into "the unseen one."
Ares: Ares was the god of war. He carries around a shield and a sword, usually pictured as a big muscular man with a beard.

In this book, the main character, Percy, has the disease, dyslexia and ADHD. Both dyslexia and ADHD effect learning abilities, along with behavior. Dyslexia is known for making people mix up letters, but it also causes other things. For example, it slows down learning skill, compared to people without the disease, and kids generally take a longer time to comprehend information. On the other hand, ADHD usually caused people to be hyperactive or share the lack of attention. In this book, Percy's ADHD always get him into trouble, especially when it comes to school field trips.
