Dairy Queen is a book about DJ Schwenk, a girl living on a farm in Wisconsin. She lives with her younger brother, Curtis, her mom, and her dad. DJ also has two older brothers, Bill and Win, who play college football, but don't talk to the family anymore because of a fight. Now that DJ's dad has hip problems, most of the farm responsibilities are left to her. During the summer, Brian Nelson, a backup quarterback for the rivalry high school team is brought to DJ's farm to help them work. At first he and DJ hate each other, and Brian does very little work. After a while, though, DJ agrees with the coach to train Brian for the upcoming football season. They begin to have fun training, and start to get along. DJ even makes a football field in the fields of the farm. But while training Brian, DJ begins to get the idea that she will try out for the football team. This book is a great read that includes romance, lesbian teens, football, and finding your true passions. To find out if DJ tries out for football and how she deals with all the relationships in her life, read Dairy Queen, by Catherine Gilbert Murdock.
