The Call Of The Wild

Jack London

"It was the call, the many-noted call, sounding more alluring and compelling than ever before. And as never before, he was ready to obey."

The Call of The Wild by Jack London is about a half St. Bernard, half sheepdog named Buck. One day Buck got kidnapped and sold to two dog traders, Perrault and Francois. Buck was taken away and was accompanied by another dog that belonged to the same owner, Curly. The two dogs were shipped over to Klondike, Alaska. Next day, while the owner was in the house, a gang of dogs teamed up on Curly and killed her. Perrault trained Buck to be a sled dog and he was positioned in front of the wheeler, or sled dog, which is the dog closest to the carriage. One day, Buck got into a fierce fight with the lead dog, Spitz, and killed him. Buck became the new lead dog, getting a time record for dog sled races. Many dogs died, but Buck survived because he was a strong civilized dog. A little while later, the team of dogs was turned over to new masters: Hal, Mercedes, and Charles. The new masters treated the dogs horribly, beating and starving them. One day, the group of dogs found a man named John Thornton, who freed him from his cold-hearted masters. In the arctic, Buck had experiences that changed his life. You will have to read The Call Of The Wild to learn more about Buck's adventures with Thornton, and his own experiences living in the wild.

I would recommend The Call of the Wild to anyone interested in an adventure taking place in Klondike Alaska. This book is interesting as well as informative. This book is based on a trip that the author, Jack London, took to Klondike, Alaska. This book takes place during the Klondike Gold Rush. By reading the book, you will learn more about the gold rush while entertaining yourself. Just try it. "Just Do It."

This book is available in both hard-cover and paperback. You can also read this book online HERE
