       Summary

Outside the home of the Aboudi family in the Palestinian city of Ramallah, an Israeli tank blocks the street. Armed troops have kept the town's citizens trapped indoors for two weeks. 12-year-old Karim, unable to play soccer with his friends, or escape from his unbearable teenage brother, is about to go crazy.  When the curfew ends, Karim and

his friends make an exciting find - a piece of waste ground that's great for a new soccer field, with its own special hide-out. But their secret hideaway becomes a terrifying death- trap when the soldiers with guns return.  A Little Piece of Ground is an exciting story that brings to life the experiences of an ordinary boy living through one of the most intense wars in this world today, the war over the Gaza Strip.

Review

This was a very good book.  When we read it, we all agreed that there was great info on the conflict between Israel and Palestine.  The book also had soccer as a very involved part of the story, which is good for soccer fans.  There's a very intense feeling in the story when action rolls in on the main character.  Almost shot to death our, friend finds that to be a man he must push through everything to make it to his goal, live through the long dark night in a cave with Israeli soldiers on the prowl.  It meant a lot when the whole family was supportive and helped each other.
